Immediate Surroundings

Post again!

I really want to keep up the sketching malark; so even if I can't get anywhere, I can at least try and work with what's much closer. Objects that surround me in my current place. It feels very school-y, but it's something! I am still very dissatisfied with these sketches, but I do quite like the dog door stopper... Well I'll just keep drawing and hope I can reach up to the tree of satisfaction.

As you can see, some objects I work in to more than others. Some I draw by holding the pen loosely at the top to give a different kind of line, and so forth. Again, I have added colour to make the objects a bit more interesting to look at... I hope it is helping to enhance them!

British Museum

I had a slight change of plan the other day... so I decided to go to the British Museum to do more doodlings. Sadly I am still not on my best form, and apparently didn't draw as much as I'd thought. But here we go, more sketches for my around London collection:

Heh... used to be rather good at jars and other vessels. Probably would be good to draw with pencil again, but it's such a pain when it smudges.


Conscious that they looked solely like rubbishy scribbles, I decided to slap a quick bit of experimental colour on these following images in the ever convenient Photoshop. I think it helped a little. (Note: colours not accurate.)





As I said, really thought I'd drawn more than this. Well, there's other times...

Prehistoric Creatures Of Crystal Palace

My first lot of hopefully many more sketches around London!
(Also I realise my last post sounded a tad brash - I was in a lot of pain at the time; I'm not that grumpy!)

I shamefully admit this is the first time I've done observational sketching in a while. And thus I have got off to a slightly crappy start with the following images.

I started sketching a little bit in St. James's Park, near Buckingham Palace. The people went so fast I could only make very quick squiggles. Hope to return to draw the birdies.



I went to Crystal Palace Parks specifically to see the models of the Victorian dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. The Victorian take on dinosaurs is both fascinating and a touch frightening! I also attempted the maze, but it was pretty pathetic and the 'quick escape' entrance was open so you could see and walk into the centre anyway.

As I said, rather a bad start...



I quite like this page. That one dinosaur looks really nothing like the actual model - grr!

Horses, Donkey, Mermaid

Oh look, a post. I still draw?! Argh, these didn't come up in the correct order. I had an urge to do some fast doodles of horses, because they are fun to draw; and in coloured pencil, because it is fun to draw with them rather than standard grey pencil. These ones have more of a Disney style to them because I was half inspired by Glen Keane's wonderful concept sketches for Tangled. This first one in red, yes the anatomy is crazy, but that's how it is.



Horse in a more exciting pose. '... and I ri-ide like the wind, (ride like the wind)...' - Christopher Cross. Good song that. Slight back leg fail - poor thing.

Another hor- oh no it's not. Darn formatting or whatever it is. A Mermaid because I felt like drawing one. No face as such! I drew this long before I saw Pirates 4 at the cinema.

Ah, a horse! Drawn while I was listening to the marvellous song 'The Legend Of Xanadu' by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Titch. So the horse is named Xanadu. It was drawn on the back of old animation paper hence why there's random marks within the pink. I drew this quite before the other ones; not sure when.

Lastly a donkey of sorts. Looong ears.

I'm off to London soon so not sure when I'll next have drawings that I can upload. (EDIT: Actually very soon - I was able to bring my scanner!)
